Man is made in the image of God, and just as our God is Triune – Father; Son, Jesus Christ; and Holy Spirit – so is man comprised of three parts – body, soul, and spirit. All three parts of man work together, are all interconnected, and can’t be separated. For a person to be well and stay in health or to be healed after illness has occurred, all three parts must be addressed and cared for. This part of my blog will look at some areas to address for wellness or healing the body.
I am not a doctor or health care practitioner, so I do not share my healing journey as a prescription or protocol for someone else to follow. I do not share my thoughts or ideas as “the way” for healing. I am sharing for educational purposes only. If you’re interested in any ideas that I share, you must research for yourself and talk with your own health care provider before attempting to implement any.
For the last 25+ years, I’ve been on a healing journey as I’ve battled Lyme Disease and other tick borne infections including, but not limited to Babesia, Bartonella, Rickettsiae, Mycoplasma and others which developed after a tick bit me while mowing our yard in 1993. This combination of bacteria and parasites are only a few of the many diseases that a tick can possibly transmit. The tick passes these nasty critters on to the most available host as they feed. These hosts, such as the white footed mouse, deer, birds, and animals of any kind then carry the ticks into your own space. I was misdiagnosed for 17 years, and because I had a myriad of symptoms and no answers after seeking the help of many doctors, my husband and I began our own journey of learning and research. My journey to wellness began.
This journey has led me to many discoveries and open doors that I didn’t know much about, and many that I didn’t even know existed prior to my battle with Lyme Disease. I was introduced to a world of doctors that didn’t just have M.D. after their name, but had titles such as chiropractor, naturopath, holistic, and integrative. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very thankful for M.D.’s and believe that they have much to offer, but sometimes with some complicated health issues, we need a team to bring different healing modalities for our benefit. That has been my case. Treatments like essential oils homeopathics, frequency specific microcurrent, rife machines, light lasers, herbal remedies, antibiotics, and many more became common language in our home and in the community of others with Lyme Disease and coinfections that I communicate with.
So what does all this have to do with my new journey – fighting breast cancer? I think a lot because I’ve learned some very basic wellness facts. For example, did you know that approximately 70- 80% of your immune system is in your gut and that your gut’s called your second brain? If your gut’s not healthy, then guess what? You will have health problems. So making sure you have a healthy gut is critical to getting well or staying in health.
Over the years I’ve done pretty well integrating better health habits into my daily life, but I will be the first to admit, I haven’t been perfect (which I never will be). However, I know the changes I’ve made have improved my overall health immensely and have kept me up and running for these last 25 years as I’ve battled my way back to health from Lyme Disease. Number one is strengthening my immune system, something that I’ve been working on for years as Lyme Disease attempts to destroy that system as it effects all of the other systems of the body. For sure I’m going to need somewhat of a new game plan to battle cancer, but as I research and learn, formulating my new game plan, here are some basics that I will certainly continue:
- Eating a healthy diet – eat organic as much as possible. Eat primarily vegetables, green leafy and all other brightly colored ones, and fruits that have a lower glycemic index. Limit the consumption of red meat and eat primarily fish and chicken and always organic. (Some say that all meat should be removed from the diet when battling cancer, but opinions vary on this one. This is an area that I’m researching.)
- Not eating dairy, sugar, or white flour.
- If you’re going to eat grains, make sure that they’re whole grain. Much research indicates grain free may the best way to go.
- Eat gluten free.
- Drink lots of pure water. For me, that’s around 130 ml of water a day.
- Get quality sleep and rest. I need at least 8 hours a night.
- Exercise – at least a walk outside every day.
- Supplements and vitamins which are healing for the immune system, that strengthen and build up the body, and some that target certain other issues.
This list is not exhaustive for sure, but these are the areas that I am continuing to implement at the moment. The one that I left off the list, is the one that may be the most important of all: STRESS REDUCTION. Honestly, because I was already implementing the 7 points above in my daily life for the most part, I knew when I received the cancer diagnosis that I must focus on eliminating (REMOVING) as much stress as possible from my life. Receiving a diagnosis of cancer is very stressful, but as I purposefully release my cares and worries over to my loving Father God through Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, I know that He has me in the palm of His hand. His peace sweeps over me and fills all the places where stress might have taken root, but it can’t because God’s taken care of that! Jesus Christ is so amazingly good!
“Cast all your anxiety (cares) on Him because He cares for you.” 1Peter 5:7
Prayer: Dear Father, I thank you that you hear our prayers, that you love us all so very much and that you are working a good plan for our lives. You are our Creator and you masterfully knitted us together in our mother’s womb. You know us inside and out. You are the Great Physician, the Great and Mighty Healer, El Rophe, the God who heals us. Thank you that You are very specific when you speak to us. Let us hear Your voice clearly today as You guide and direct our steps into healing. I pray for all that need healing, physical, emotional or mental that at this very moment, Your healing anointing falls upon us, and that we are healed. We love you so. In Jesus Name. Amen.
